Ranked as "the world’s second best city", Budapest is also known as the most beautiful city in Europe. And as a UNESCO World Heritage site it offers splendid architecture, scenery and centuries of history, along with some of the world’s best pastry! You’ll explore all this and more on your Ensemble Experience.
You’ll begin with a visit to Restaurant Rétesház where you’ll see how the pastry chefs craft the flakiest, tastiest strudels. Then you’ll enjoy a piece of strudel with coffee or tea and a sampling of Palinka, an Eastern European schnapps.
From there you’ll visit the Hungarian National Museum, a beautiful neo-classical building dedicated to Hungarian history, culture and archaeology. Its collection of historical treasures includes a coronation mantle of Hungarian kings made in 1031 of gold and Byzantine silk.
After this culinary and cultural introduction, you’ll tour the romantic Castle District, the medieval heart of Budapest packed with museums, historic sites and attractions.
You’ll follow charming, crooked streets that trace the shape of the hill and see cafés, gothic arches and baroque homes. From Fisherman’s Bastion, you also get a breath-taking panorama of the Danube with the Chain Bridge and the other half of the city (Pest) on the opposite side of the river.
Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a three course meal of local specialties at a traditional restaurant. Then you’ll return to the ship via Heroes’ Square Millennium Memorial and through Andrassy Avenue for some final glimpses of Budapest’s past.
